Through blogging and Instagramming, I’ve been introduced to an amazing Virtual Sisterhood of Creative Ladies.
The Oh Creative Lady series is your chance to meet these incredible, kind-hearted, inspiring <insert ALL the happy, positive adjectives HERE> women.
I love hearing about the adventures that make up the lives of others. Today’s Creative Lady trained as a Chemical Engineer. She then moved into Teaching. Then became a…. well, I’ll let Fynn tell you her story. Fynn is the clever and creative mamma behind the Insta account, @happytotshelf. Each month she explores a different theme based on the interests of her kiddies, and sets up a bookshelf to help them delve into those interests. How fun it must be to be a little at Fynn’s! Introducing Fynn!
I am… Fynn from @happytotshelf. Mum to two lovelies (aged 3 and 1), from Singapore and currently living in California.
Since I married my true love, life has been all but boring. I followed him around the world from Singapore to Sweden and to California. Our two little ones came along and threw more chaos into our lives. I was trained a Chemical Engineer, became a secondary school Science teacher and after doing hard Sciences all my life, decided to dabble in the arts and became a make up artist. Finally we made this major move to California, I took on my ‘new career’ as a stay at home mum and that’s when I started Happy Tot Shelf.
I find inspiration… from my children. Because of their natural curiosity about everything and their persistence to get answers to all their questions (I don’t know is not an answer), now I know the names of many construction vehicles and even more dinosaurs and even more construction vehicles. And the name of that random yellow flower or brown fruit we stumbled upon while walking to the park. There is nothing that does not capture these little minds and viewing the world through their eyes has opened up a bigger (and better) world for me. It’s never difficult to come up with my monthly themes at Happy Tot Shelf, I just follow their interests!
I am excited about … a new day, new stages in life, new plans, new ideas, new knowledge, new skills, new places. A new day will come and I will have another shot to do things better. New days bring hope and new experiences bring endless possibilities.
When I’m in a creative slump, I… stare into blank space. True story. Quiet moments clear up space in my mind for new ideas. Once an idea pops into my mind, I get working on it right away and more often than not, the process will spark off more ideas.
I’m really proud of… right now, Happy Tot Shelf. It didn’t exactly started with a noble cause – it was created out of boredom, because I didn’t know what to do with all the time at home with my kids. Now Happy Tot Shelf has become my creative outlet. It’s something I do not just for my children but for myself too because it fills me with happiness.
Someone once told me… We mean the world to our kids. Now that’s a big deal to be the best (despite our inadequacy) and be everything in our kids’ eyes. Don’t take this love for granted. It can be pretty hard sometimes, especially when the little ones demand our attention all the time. But remember that their world will soon expand and we will probably be wanting their attention at that time!
My advice to you is … Be there for our kids. Make everyday count. Mean every hug. Have fun on the journey!
