Through blogging and Instagramming, I’ve been introduced to an amazing Virtual Sisterhood of Creative Ladies.
The Oh Creative Lady series is your chance to meet these incredible, kind-hearted, inspiring <insert ALL the happy, positive adjectives HERE> women.
Liv from A Crafty LIVing is a Nanny and Early Childhood Powerhouse. She shares all kinds of amazing arts, crafts and play-based activities for little ones. I am constantly marveling at the originality and creativity of her ideas. What I love most about Liv is her obvious passion for her job and her young charges. It is an absolute pleasure to introduce Liv…
I am… Oh Hi! My name is Olivia (better known as Liv!) I live & work on the beautiful Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia! I am a 20-something year old Nanny to 4 little lovelies – Miss 5, Mr 3, Miss 2 & Miss 19m.
I am the crafty Nanny behind A Crafty LIVing – a website sharing arts, crafts & activities for babies, toddlers & preschoolers! I started A Crafty LIVing to inspire parents & educators worldwide to raise creative kids through simple skill building crafts & activities.
I find inspiration… In just about everything – A walk through Spotlight, the library or by the beach, a scroll through Instagram or just 5 minutes chatting with a child.
In making time for creativity through experimenting, painting, writing and drawing.
I am excited about … Our new daily prompts! Messy Monday, Tinker Tuesday, Teamwork Wednesday, Pretend Play Thursday, Fine Motor Friday, Scribble Saturday & Sensory Sunday! I started these prompts as a simple way to focus on a particular set of skills each day, and learning through play. The prompts are open to 1000’s of ideas and can be as simple or as complex as you interpret them to be.
There’s lots more happening behind the scenes here at Crafty LIVing headquarters! For now though, it’s a secret so make sure you’re watching this space!
When I’m in a creative slump, I… Clean, sort & de-clutter! I find my creative slumps come when my supplies & activities are disorganized.
I regret starting when I’m half way through & knee deep in all my crafty supplies – however I always get my mojo back when it’s done!
… and then I go shopping for things I probably don’t need – filling the empty space I made. It’s a vicious cycle.
I often get the kids involved in the cleaning, sorting & decluttering! Why? They’re naturally creative little beings! I let them loose through my abundance of supplies & watch as they pick things up, put them together & say “This could be a…” or “I want to make a…” – followed by me thinking “why didn’t I think of that!?”
I’m really proud of… My career! When I started nannying, I was told it wasn’t a real job, I wouldn’t make money & I wouldn’t be successful. Boy, have I proved them wrong. I am so in love with my job!
It’s not a chore getting out of bed to go to work & I often wish away my days off, just so I can get back into it (not a lot of people can say that about their jobs)! I’ve worked hard to be where I am today & I genuinely love what I do!
Someone once told me… That I can do anything I put my mind to!
My advice to you is … Be kind, always.
Love yourself. Smile at strangers. Quit worrying. Live in the moment. Say yes to opportunities. Be thankful for hot showers, clean water, food and a bed to sleep in.
