Through blogging and Instagramming, I’ve been introduced to an amazing Virtual Sisterhood of Creative Ladies.
The Oh Creative Lady series is your chance to meet these incredible, kind-hearted, inspiring <insert ALL the happy, positive adjectives HERE> women.
My Danish InstaLady, Mie has a feed dedicated to savouring the beautiful, everyday moments of her creative family life. Her captions are poetically expressive and her photos capture a special whimsy that is infused into the daily lives of her 3 children. She has this incredible ability to notice all the little moments and to celebrate them. It is such a pleasure to introduce Mie!
I am… Mie. I live in Denmark with my husband and my three children Birk (8), Ines (6) and Fjor (4). Creativity has always been a part of my life. After I had my third child, I experienced a challenging period with lots of stress – I stopped working for two years and decided to commit 100% to being a mama. I realized that my children would grow up so fast that I wanted to slow down and take my time to create the best conditions for a creative and healthy childhood. In that period I found that being creative with my children helped me to slow down, it reduced my stress and empowered me – and it still does.
Today I work part time as a mental health consultant – I am an occupational therapist, who has specialized in children, young people and families.
I find inspiration… Oh – let’s say in everything. But most importantly, I reuse!! I collect used packaging, old boxes, jars….We dry flowers from our garden and evening walks. My children are my biggest inspiration. When they lead our creative projects, I just follow along and their active imagination inspires me. And then of cause a big shout out to all my fellow creators on Instagram. If you follow the right people, it is an amazing community to be a part of and share inspiration.
I am excited about… CURIOSITY, CREATIVITY AND DIVERSITY! We are all born with it – how can we keep those natural human qualities through out our entire life?
And I dream about making a book. A book for families who want to be creative together. I want to show that it takes very little and you just have to start with the simple and easy things – just like I did. I realized how important it is to make invitations to play and create to facilitate play and creativity.
I’m really proud of…
– the choices I make in my life
– my children’s independence in creative processes
– my patience
Someone once told me … “kids learn by what you do, not what you say.” When you set the example, your children will begin to understand and it will help them develop their creativity.
My advice to you is… just get going, start easy. You don’t have to be an artist to raise creative kids. My best advice is to let your kids have free access to art supplies, make small invitations to play and allow them to explore and get messy – fall in love with the process and the result will come.
