The countdown is ON for Rio 2016.
Over on Instagram, Susie from @handywithscissors and I are hosting an epic Recyclympics. We’re coming up with fun, easy Backyard Olympic ideas made out of recyclables.
We’re kicking off the athletic fun with some Olympic torches. (BYO sweat bands.)
I made the above torch with both of my toddlers. (Love me some collaborative art.)
Here is what you’ll need:
- A piece of artwork. The above masterpiece was produced at play group. (Hooray for out-sourcing!)
- Paper tube
- Paper cup
- Bubble wrap
- Craft glue
- Tissue paper
Paint the paper tube white. Toddler #1 was charged with this task.
Mr 15 Months was charged with squishing paint between the bubble wrap.
Once the paint has dried, cut a circle in the base of the cup to push tube through.
Glue the bubble wrap to the outside of cup.
Stuff some fiery tissue paper into the tube.
Cut some flames out of the artwork. Coat the inside of the cup with craft glue and position flames into cup. Done!
If you’re after an Olympic Torch craft for older kids, let them design their own torch with felt. They can create lots of different pieces to create their own Mix n’ Match torch.
Here’s Susie’s take on the Torch craft.
Nothing like some aluminium foil action!
