13 Prompts to Foster Gratitude in Kids

13 Prompts to Foster Gratitude in Kids

How do you foster gratitude in kids?

Spring has Sprung!
I find that my gratitude levels are at their year’s peak as we move from the chill of Winter into the sunshine of Spring.
I know that many of my Canadian and American friends celebrate Thanksgiving at this time of the year.
Gratitude is amplified at this time of the year.

Do you have any gratitude traditions or rituals with you kids?
Over at Mumtastic, I’ve created a simple Spring Gratitude Challenge with prompts that aim to send the gratitude levels sky-rocketing. Free printable and all! (Free printables make me very grateful.)

The printable is designed to create conversation starters. Some of the prompts ask for specific action, like create an artwork or take photos. But there are no rules to this challenge. Complete it as best suits your family.

Print out the prompts and stick them on the fridge. Or choose a few and get the kids to write them out and decorate them in poster form.
You could discuss the prompts in the car. At bedtime. Around the dinner table. However works for you!

Here are the prompts:

  • Write a thank you note to somebody. (Here are some printable thank cards. Or another homemade card for kids to create.)
  • Take some photos of people you are grateful for.
  • Create an artwork showing 3 things you are grateful for.
  • List 3 great things that happened to you today.
  • Go for a walk and talk about what you appreciate in your surroundings.
  • What is different today than a year ago that you are grateful for?
  • What is something you do each day that makes you happy?
  • What skills do you have that makes you happy?
  • Make and decorate a list of things that never fail to make you happy.
  • Write a letter to somebody telling them what you appreciate about them.
  • Make a playlist of songs that make you happy.
  • Lie in the grass and appreciate the sky.
  • Draw a memory that you are grateful for.
